Teachers are aliens

Why is it that students think their teachers are different from everyone else. They seem to think that we don't do what everyone else does. On Friday I was listening to my IPod during my prep period and I was putting it away when they were entering and one of my students saw it and she was amazed with the fact that I had one. Then she proceded to announce it to the rest of the students. They were amazed with the fact that I had one. They thought it was weird because it is something that only teenagers have.

Let me tell you this is not the first time that they are amazed by something that I or other teachers do. What do they think we do out of school. Do we go to our own little planet and do things that other people don't do. They just think it is so weird for us to be out at a store or movie and they meet us on the street like we are not allowed or aren't suppose to be out there. Teenagers can be so funny sometimes.

It's that whole 'role-model' and 'authority figure' thing going on. Parents are those too, and parents are not usually cool or with it, so they lump teachers in there too.

Also, teachers teach alot of established stuff, so it can make it seem like teachers are outdated with the times.

Keep surprising them! Now, the whole school will be abuzz about the Ipod teacher!
